Kahner James
Staff Coach | MDA Lions Head Coach
Kahner brings ten years of coaching experience to Michigan Development Academy, with a background spanning middle school, high school, and semi-professional soccer. He holds a USSF C License and has developed players who have gone on to earn High School All-State and MIHSSCA Dream Team recognition, as well as collegiate placements at the NAIA, Division III, Division II, and Division I levels.
He currently serves as Head Coach of the MDA Lions, MDA's men's semi-professional team, and has been newly appointed as Head Coach of the Bloomfield Hills boys varsity soccer program. At MDA, he also coaches across the boys travel program, working with teams at multiple age groups.
Kahner is a former MDA player himself. Returning to the club as a coach was a natural decision. The club's commitment to holistic player development and transparency aligns directly with his own coaching philosophy.
Outside of soccer, Kahner is an avid disc golfer, Detroit sports fan, and Celtic FC supporter.
